The whole company believed in the play. Duncan Lumsden, as the Stranger, flashes through a rainbow of moods, from playful to despairing, while Wric Ross and Lucas Tavenier play excellent supporting roles. The play is reminiscent of much of Tom Stoppard’s work in its delight in ideas, facility with language and deep-seated humanity.

Given the setting the most pertinent questions–“Why is there evil? Schmitt covers eruc variety of themes in his work. Theatre professionals were carried away by the play. Is he an embodiment of our perception of Freud’s subconscious? With The Visitor, he has more than fulfilled these promises. A true episode, this was to be Freud’s worst experience.
We see what we really are: Freud takes the existential view of Marx, Nietzsche, Camus and Sartre that the concept of God inhibits ivsiteur from achieving self-awareness and dignity while the Visitor iterates Pascal’s wager that believing in God and being wrong is better than not believing and being wrong.

The best aspect of Schmitt’s play is his characterization of God as a nonchalant dandy. His plays have been performed in 35 countries and translated into many languages. Besides, the Visitor senses that Freud actually does want to believe though his emphasis on reason prevents him. But we know perfectly well that the stage emmanule nothing but a world of illusions.

His new play is so enjoyably thrilling and exciting for our cerebral convolutions that it has become difficult to find efic superlatives to qualify it.
Humour quickly prevails, however, preventing the gravity of the situation from becoming burdensome – erid Jewish humour which is at once a way of life complete with a code of good manners, and an act of resistance.
